Earlier this week, against my better judgment, we all went to Joann's after school. I needed white kona for my niece's quilt (I still have a bit of design paralysis on that one) and for whatever reason, I needed it NOW. While I was there, I bought a few quarter yards of the new DS Quilts Daisy Mae--I liked them much better in person than I thought I would. At the cutting table, the clerk rang up one of the .25 yard cuts as a 250 yard cut. Even with a 50% coupon, ouch. She said, "The total is 2,000." Gasp! Can you imagine?! Luckily, we got it figured out quickly enough.
I first thumbed through Densye Schmidt's book in 2007. I made the "Hop, Skip and a Jump" quilt for my son in 2009, before I knew anything about fabric selection, or the fact that "white" fabric from different manufacturers doesn't necessarily match, or that you didn't have to use templates for improv piecing. I've wanted to make her Drunk Love pattern ever since. I like this version, in the DS Quilt Daisy Mae fabrics. It's a little busy, I would love to try this quilt in a more limited palette. We'll see. I enjoyed just sitting down and making something for no reason at all, instead of a project associated with deadlines, swaps, or charity quilts. And, in the same vein, I FINALLY updated my blog header, profile picture, and sidebar links. I was tired of looking at the same pictures for the last 18 months or so.
Finally, if you are interested in attending the DC Modern Quilt Guild meeting tomorrow, there is information here. We would love to have you come.

Fun! I've got a friend hunting down some of those prints for me. Joann doesn't ship to Canada.

ReplyDeleteYour quilt and your blog look great! I'm still planning on coming tomorrow, but I won't be able to be there until closer to 11. I hope that's okay! Looking forward to it!

Lovely quilt! I think I would love this line if I saw it in person, too. Perhaps it's a good thing that it's not being sold in Canada!
ReplyDeleteThis is a dangerous time of year to shop at Joann's - at least at my local Joann's, they seem to hire the least experienced people they can find, then put them on the cutting table! Keep your eye on them, and you'll be ok, though. Pretty quilt!!
ReplyDeleteLove the blog's new look! And the quilt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSomething about this one really appeals to me...gorgeous~
ReplyDeleteI love it! And the blog update looks great!
ReplyDeleteI just printed your Garden Windows project sheet...thanks so much! It looks like a fun quilt and I appreciate that it's just one sheet to print!
ReplyDeleteAlso, about the DC Modern Quilt Guild...when is the December meeting? Do you meet at the same place usually? I live in southern Maryland, so it might be too far for me to drive, but it sounds like fun!
