Uphill Both Ways

My friend and I rode our bikes to Maryland today. Really, it sounds a lot cooler than it is since we only rode for 18 or so miles... Growing up in California I always chuckle that I can drive through six states in just a few hours. Anyway, this was the view from the Wilson Bridge (the uphill both ways part of the ride) and the sky was stunning. Two weeks and counting until race day. My goal on that day? To laugh and just enjoy the race...

In other news, I was able to baste three quilts, quilt one, and do a lot of talking and laughing with friends (I secretly want to be as talented a sewist as Melanie...) My class sample quilt took a turn for the terrible before it turned into this--I realized that importance of value in a quilt with this one, and had to play around with it a lot before it evolved into this.  I'm back to the drawing board for the class sample.  I'm thinking of doing something like this quilt by Rae Hoekstra...it incorporates some strip piecing, attaching borders, and the all important 1/4 seam allowance. Thanks to everyone for sharing their beginning quilting tips--the importance of the 1/4 inch seam allowance was the clear winner, here.   Enjoy your weekend ~ we will be bowling, weeding, swimming, and washing dishes, I think.

  2. I felt a kinship with this picture today, as my friend suggested a walk across the Wilson bridge--I saw it being built when I lived there and to see it now all complete is a wonder. But. . . things being what they were we opted for a walk around Teddy Roosevelt Island.

Lovely photo, though, and good luck on your biking goals. Thanks also for referring me to Pam. I ALMOST made it there, but thing diverged into a different direction. Luckily she's mail order, so when I get home from here (I'm still in DC) I'll place an order with her. She has a lovely selection of fabric and I'm so glad you mentioned her.
